IVSC Academic Forum

The IVSC Academic Forum was established in 2025 to create a global platform for academics engaged in valuation education and research. Its purpose is to strengthen the connection between academia and the International Valuation Standards (IVS), ensuring that teaching, research, and practice work together to advance the global valuation profession.
In addition to supporting the ongoing evolution of IVS through academic insight, the Forum serves as an international network for sharing developments in teaching and research, exchanging ideas on emerging valuation themes, and fostering collaboration on joint projects, including research initiatives and funding bids.
The Forum brings together individuals who teach, research, or work in valuation and related areas — including accountancy, finance, economics, business, sustainability, and the built environment. It is open to both specialists in valuation and those whose work contributes to or intersects with valuation practice.
Forum participants have the opportunity to:
  • Contribute to the evolution of IVS by sharing academic perspectives.
  • Collaborate on emerging topics and global valuation challenges.
  • Strengthen links between higher education and professional practice.
  • Share teaching resources and approaches for integrating IVS into curricula.
  • Promote research in key areas such as ESG, technology, and data in valuation.
The Forum typically meets on a quarterly basis, with additional working groups and subcommittees convened as needed to progress specific initiatives. It is co-chaired by Professor Mauro Bini (Bocconi University) and Dr Frank Harrington (TU Dublin), and supported by IVSC staff and board members, including Nicolas Konialidis as Technical Secretariat.

Co-Chair, IVSC Academic Forum

The International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) provides a global platform for academics and practitioners engaged in all aspects of valuation spanning both tangible and intangible assets, from real estate to business and financial instruments. Within this ecosystem, the Academic Forum provides a bridge for academics who may be based in different faculties or schools within their universities, fostering collaboration across the built environment, finance, and related areas, with a shared goal of strengthening the valuation profession worldwide.

For me, the Forum is about connecting the academic and professional worlds, ensuring that research, teaching, and practice inform and reinforce one another. Evidence-based research is fundamental to the credibility of valuation standards, supporting global economic stability by underpinning consistency, transparency, and confidence in markets.

Through its network and outreach, the Forum offers academics, researchers, and institutions opportunities to engage in collaborative projects and exchanges, joint publications, and international research bids, while contributing evidence-based insight to the ongoing development of the International Valuation Standards (IVS).

I believe the Forum represents a genuine step forward in building a global academic community for the valuation profession. One that connects disciplines, advances research, and embeds IVS principles within education and practice. I would warmly encourage colleagues and institutions to join us in shaping the future of valuation learning and thought leadership.
