Alistair Darling
Chair of the IVSC Board of Trustees, 2019-2023
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Alistair Darling, Chair of the International Valuation Standards Council Board of Trustees (IVSC).
Alistair assumed the role of Chair in 2019, following a long and illustrious career in public service, notably serving as the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the United Kingdom between 2007 and 2010. His tenure as Chair was marked by significant growth and development within the IVSC, driven by his unwavering commitment to the public interest. His contributions will leave an enduring legacy to the organisation and the valuation profession more broadly.
Throughout his time at the IVSC, Alistair has been deeply committed to enhancing professionalism and standards in our field. Under his leadership, he brought with him enormous expertise but also great humour and genuine warmth to his work, endearing him to all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Apart from his professional achievements, Alistair was a man of great personal integrity and devotion. His role as a loving husband to his wife, Maggie, and as a proud father to his children, Calum and Anna was a source of immense pride and joy to him. These personal commitments shone through in every aspect of his life.
As we mourn the loss of Alistair, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and the lasting impact he has had on both the IVSC and the wider global community. His legacy of integrity, dedication, and compassion will continue to inspire us all. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit and the values he championed will remain at the heart of our work, both now and in the future.
Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time, and we extend our deepest condolences to them.
”Today marks the loss of a remarkable leader and a friend to myself and the valuation community. Alistair Darling's wisdom and guidance as the Chair of the IVSC were invaluable. His advice, always given with generous spirit and deep dedication, has profoundly shaped our organisation for the better.
Alistair had a unique ability to lighten challenging moments with his humour and wit, reminding us of the joy in our work. His presence was not just professional but deeply personal to all who knew him.
I am personally grateful for his good humour and mentorship and will miss him immensely. His legacy at the IVSC will endure and continue to inspire us all.
