IVSC Announces Appointment of Paul Muthaura as Trustee

With a distinguished career spanning financial regulation, insurance, capital markets, and climate-related disclosures, Paul brings wide-ranging expertise to the IVSC Board of Trustees.

IVSC is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Muthaura to its Board of Trustees, effective January 2026.

Paul brings extensive leadership experience across financial regulation, governance, insurance, and market development in Africa and internationally. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI), where he leads efforts to scale high-integrity carbon markets across the continent.

In addition to his executive role, Paul serves as an Independent Board Member of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), an Independent Board Member of BAT Kenya, a Board Member of ICEA LION Asset Management, and an Independent Member of the Financial Sector Deepening Trust, Kenya.

Paul previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer of ICEA LION General Insurance Kenya, becoming the first African member of the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) insurer pilot group. Before this, he served as Chief Executive of the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya, during which time he was elected Africa and Middle East Regional Chair on the Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries, Paul holds qualifications from the University of Warwick, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the Maastricht School of Management, KCA University, and the Academy of Executive Coaching.

Commenting on the appointment, Hwee Hua Lim, IVSC Chair, said:

Paul will formally join the IVSC Board of Trustees on 1 January 2026.
